Connect Xero once, and stop typing invoices twice
BOOKAR connects to Xero directly. You authorise the connection once, map your nominal codes to your chart of accounts, and invoices start arriving in Xero as they are raised.
It is a proper connection rather than a file export: sales invoices and supplier bills are pushed through Xero's API, tax rates are matched to your Xero rates, and every sync is recorded so you can see what posted, what did not, and why.
Live integration — connect your Xero organisation from BOOKAR in a couple of clicks.

What the Xero integration does
The goal is a set of books that stays current without anyone spending a morning on it at the end of the month.
One-click connect
Authorise BOOKAR against your Xero organisation using Xero's own login. Tokens are refreshed automatically, and you can disconnect at any time.
Chart of accounts mapping
Map each BOOKAR nominal code to the Xero account it belongs in — labour, parts, MOT, tyres, sublet — once, and every invoice after that lands in the right place.
Sales invoices
Customer invoices post to Xero with their lines, accounts and tax treatment intact, so the sales ledger reflects the workshop without re-entry.
Supplier bills
Purchase invoices from your parts and tyre suppliers go across as bills, coded to your purchases account.
Tax rates matched
BOOKAR resolves each line's VAT treatment to the corresponding Xero tax rate, separately for sales and purchases, rather than guessing a default.
Nothing posts twice
Every document is sent with an idempotency key and tracked with a sync record, so a retry after a network wobble cannot create a duplicate invoice.
From the job to Xero and back
Four steps, all of them inside the work your team is already doing.
Connect
Authorise BOOKAR against your Xero organisation. The connection uses Xero's own login and can be revoked whenever you want.
Map your accounts
Match BOOKAR nominal codes to Xero accounts and confirm the tax rates. This is a one-off setup job.
Work as normal
Raise invoices and record supplier bills in BOOKAR. They post to Xero without anyone doing anything extra.
Check the sync log
See what posted and when. Anything that failed shows the reason and can be retried once it is fixed.
Why garages turn it on
Bookkeeping is where a busy workshop pays for its own success — in evenings, in accountancy fees, or in both.
- No re-keying invoices from one system into another
- Books that are current, not three weeks behind
- VAT returns built on data that has already been coded
- Supplier bills and sales invoices in the same flow
- A visible record of what has and has not posted
- Less to explain to your accountant at year end
About Xero
Xero is cloud accounting software used by millions of small businesses, and one of the most common choices among UK independent garages. It handles bank reconciliation, VAT returns under Making Tax Digital, payroll and reporting.
Because it is cloud-based with an open API, your accountant can work in the same books at the same time as you — which is what makes a live connection from your garage system worth having.

Common questions about Xero
Does BOOKAR store my Xero password?
No. The connection uses Xero's own OAuth login, so BOOKAR only ever holds a revocable access token. You can disconnect from either side at any time.
What if an invoice fails to post?
It is recorded with the reason — usually an unmapped account or tax rate — and can be retried once that is corrected. Nothing is lost and nothing posts twice.
Can my accountant still work the way they do now?
Yes. BOOKAR posts documents into Xero; everything after that — reconciliation, VAT, reporting — carries on exactly as it does today.
The rest of the stack
BOOKAR connects to the suppliers, data providers and payment platforms a UK garage already runs on.
